Vick’s dogs and people who saved them are real heroes

-

Michael Vick’s dogs and the people who helped fight for their lives and helped them all along the way and still do every day are the heroes (Gazette, Dec. 1, “While Vick has dog days, his pit bulls are fine”). Great people. Great dogs. Definitely something to celebrate after finding out what dog fighting is all about and all the unnamed dogs that have suffered and died. You always have to wonder who was the genius who thought torturing and kill- ing dogs because they didn’t want to fight or lost a fight was okay or cool. Unbelievable cruelty to animals that give unconditional love. No human gives unconditional love. Thanks for doing this nice story about the happy endings for these “Vick” dogs and the great people who helped make it all happen.

Thank you for your article on Michael Vick’s dogs. I had so much trouble reading Jim Gorant’s book, The Lost Dogs: Michael Vick’s Dogs and Their Tale of Rescue and Redemption. I’m a dog lover, so I couldn’t stop crying and had to put the book down for a while. I finally read it and am very happy that so many dogs were saved and have a good life now. Thank you for letting us know how the dogs are doing and that some of them could be saved. I’m sure a lot of people still didn’t know what happened to these dogs. Alexandra Nadeau

Thank you very much for updating us on the situation of most of Michael Vick’s dogs. Reading The Lost Dogs was very difficult indeed, but gratefully most of them are in loving homes with frequent reunions with the other dogs. June Smith

Pit bulls have such a bad rap. I have a pit bull rescue and she is a fantastic dog! As for Michael Vick, I was one of the few who thought the Humane Society of the United States did the right thing by having him go into inner-city schools to speak to kids about the issue of dog fighting. He is a star in their minds, so hopefully they will listen to him. Is he sincere? Who knows ... but I hope so. Anne Streeter
