The Lakeshore Panthers were crowned peewee champions of the St-Jérôme Hockey Tournament after defeating les Conquérants de L’Est 1-0 in the AA finals on Sunday at Melançon Arena.

The Panthers, coached by Keifer Orsini, posted a perfect 5-0 record en route to victory.

The Panthers were backstopped by the goal tending duo of Thomas Gale and Jarod Boudreau, who allowed only one goal in five games.

Peewee sensation Joseph Veleno led the Panthers attack with four goals.

The Panthers outscored their combined opposition 14-1.

Lac St-Louis-based teams fared well at the 12-team tourney, taking three of four semifinal spots.

Also reaching the final four were the Verdun-La Salle Cobras and the Aigles de Trois-Lacs. Locals crack U-16 roster

Three members of the Lac StLouis midget AAA Lions have earned roster spots on the Team Quebec U-16 hockey team.

Goaltender James Povall and forwards Max Fortier and Ty Fournier were named to the dream team that will compete at the international Coupe Quebec in Châteauguay over the Christmas holidays.

Povall is a Deux-Rives hockey product, while Fortier and Fournier are from Hockey West Island.

Other Coupe entries include a team from Finland, a midget AAA all-star team and the host Châteauguay Grenadier midgets.

Hockey Quebec will also hold a U-13 Coupe de Québec tournament for structure integrée programs across Quebec.

The West Island will be represented by Lac St-Louis Lions U-13 SIL team, coached by Gerry Gomez.

The SIL Lions have a 20-player roster including local talent from Lakeshore, Deux-Rives, Dollard/Versant Ouest and Hockey West Island. Triple-A coming in 2013

Hockey Quebec will introduce elite AAA hockey at the peewee and bantam levels next year.

Some bantam leagues experimented with AAA this season, and Hockey Quebec will usher in regional play across the province in 2013-14.

How the AAA model will be formed in the Lac St-Louis region has yet to be made public. Old-timers score for charity

The Pointe-Claire Oldtimers recently handed out more than $91,000 to community groups and charities at its recent Donation Night.

“We gave out just over $91,000 to 53 different charities,” said PCOT president Rudy Erfle.

“The year before we actually gave $100,000 away. It was the 100th anniversary of PointeClaire that year, so we gave away $100,000.”

Some of the groups receiving donations include West Island Community Resource Centre, West Island Palliative Care Services, Pointe-Claire Volunteer Rescue Unit, West Island Association for the Intellectually Handicapped, and the Lakeshore General Hospital.

The donation money comes from proceeds from the annual old-timers hockey tournament held each spring at Bob Birnie Arena in Pointe-Claire.
