We’re stuck with One Direction — and it seems they are, too

The

interesting news about One Direction — insofar as anything about them is interesting — is their shotgun contract, described in the Sun, in England:

If any one of the five quits the group or stops being available, then none of them gets any more money. During the 26 months they’re locked into this, they each get only modest payments; when the time is up they each cash in.

Interesting. Most boy bands don’t last long; one guy wants to be a solo star or another gets stoned. This deal is designed to maximize their revenue before fans lose interest.

The paper didn’t say where the money goes if somebody quits. But this would, I guess, explain why Harry Styles gave Taylor Swift cupcakes for her birthday. Spotlight couple: Eddie Murphy, the washed-up comic, is dating a woman who looks eerily like Elin Nordegren, who used to be married to Tiger Woods.

After some excited confusion on a number of gossip websites, the Daily Mail sorted this all out: The lady is in fact one Paige Butcher, a model from Australia. She’s 33. Eddie’s 51.

Rachel Weisz says she and hubby Daniel Craig have a “don’t ask, don’t tell” deal — about their acting: “I don’t talk about my work, and nor does he. … There is nothing worse than two actors getting together and talking about acting. It’s like the end — it’s the worst.”

Why, you ask, is Steve Martin making music with Edie Brickell? Well, because they both love the banjo.

Steve’s been on this banjo kick for many years, and has become really a talented performer. As for singer/ songwriter Brickell, who’s married to Paul Simon, she told USA Today that “I fell in love with the banjo tunes because at first listen they evoked images and stories that were true to me.”

The album, Love Has Come for You, with a number of accomplished bluegrass musicians also involved, will be out in April; tour dates will be announced.

Pontius Pilate, misunderstood war hero and well-intentioned governor? That’s the premise, it seems, of a movie Brad Pitt’s getting ready to do. Deadline Hollywood, always well informed, says Pitt hasn’t yet signed onto the Warner Brothers project, but is “circling” the role. Quote of the day: Jessica Alba shares some fashion advice, in InStyle mag. Listing various retailers, Jessica advised: Wherever you shop, she said, reeling off a list of big chains stores, “if the piece doesn’t fit, it will be halfway there. So get your jackets nipped in at the waist and your pants hemmed at the perfect place. If you get your clothing tailored, you can look like a million bucks.’’

She added this: “I probably won’t ever wear booty shorts. I feel pretty confident about that. And I don’t like oversize shoulder pads.”
