Impact opens training camp on Monday

New Impact coach Marco Schallibau­m had 31 players on the field when the Major League Soccer club opened training camp Monday morning at the Marie-Victorin Sports Complex.

In addition to the 22 players under contract for the 2013 season, five players from the Impact’s U-21 team, three of the four players selected at last week’s MLS SuperDraft and one player, forward Nick Zimmerman, on a trial basis are taking part in the camp.

The five members of the U-21 team at the camp are goalkeeper Maxime Crépeau, defender Maxim Tissot, midfielder­s Wandrille Lefevre and Zakaria Messoudi, and forward Mircea Ilcu.

The three players from the SuperDraft are goalkeeper Brad Stuver, midfielder Blake Smith and forward Fernando Monge.

Other players at the camp are goalkeeper­s Evan Bush and Troy Perkins; defenders Jeb Brovsky, Hassoun Camara, Matteo Ferrari, Dennis Iapichino, Karl W. Ouimette, Alessandro Nesta, Nelson Rivas and Zarek Valentin; midfielder­s Davy Arnaud, Patrice Bernier, Felipe, Calum Mallace, Justin Mapp, Lamar Neagle, Andrea Pisanu, Sinisa Ubiparipov­ic and Collen Warner; and forwards Marco Di Vaio, Sanna Nyassi and Andrew Wenger.

The Impact will be on the indoor field at the Marie-Victorin Sports Complex Monday through Friday, starting at 10:30 a.m.

All practice sessions are open to the public.

Following two weeks of training in Montreal, the Impact will head to Orlando, Fla., from Feb. 7 to 24 to take part in the Walt Disney World Pro Soccer Classic.

The Impact opens the regular season Saturday, March 2 in Seattle and will play in Portland on March 9 before heading back to Montreal for its home opener March 16 against Toronto FC at Olympic Stadium.
