Global announces local morning show
For the first time since 2008, Montreal is getting a local morning show on English television.
Shaw Media announced Monday that Morning News will launch on Global Montreal and Global Maritimes on Monday. It will run weekdays from 6 to 9 a.m.
This completes a promise Shaw made to the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission when it purchased the broadcasting assets of Canwest in 2010.
It had previously launched morning shows in Winnipeg, Regina and Saskatoon, as well as Toronto, whose last halfhour is carried nationally.
“The Morning News will move away from the larger, more ambiguous headlines and instead turn the spotlight on the stories and issues of most importance to the city’s anglophone community,” Shaw’s statement said.
Hosting the show will be Richard Dagenais and Camille Ross. They will be joined by weather specialist Jessica Laventure.
Global’s Morning News won’t be Montreal’s only local English morning show for long. Rogers, which is launching City Montreal once its purchase of TV station CJNT is complete, will be introducing a competing one by September.
