Michael J. Fox gets Swift justice

Michael

J. Fox made the mistake of mocking Taylor Swift. (You saw the item — “What a way to build a career,” he said — in Saturday’s column.)

So her fans (“Little Swifties”? “Taylorettes”? “Sad Obsessed Teens”?) went after him, on Twitter and elsewhere in social media. He recanted rapidly, phoning Taylor to apologize.

So then Taylor tweeted this: “Hey everybody, Michael J. Fox got in touch with me today and we are good. Thank you for having my back.”

Best T-shirt joke in years: “Wanted, dead and alive: Schrödinger’s Cat.” A pal saw it in Ottawa. Don’t get it? Look it up. Spotlight couple: Daniel Radcliffe is closerthanthis with Erin Darke, his co-star in this movie Kill Your Darlings, says People mag. They were caught canoodling at the Sundance Film Festival.

Last fall there was a report that he had dated her, then dumped her. But now One Who Knows told the mag “they’ve been dating for a while but have been debating going public.”

First entrant in the Lance Armstrong biopic race: J.J. Abrams, who has snapped up the rights to the upcoming book by Juliet Macur, the New York Times reporter who covered the celebrated liar for a decade. The book’s title is, I suspect, a clear signal about the tone of the movie; it’s called Cycle of Lies: The Fall of Lance Armstrong.

I believe Abrams — Lost, Felicity, Alias, Fringe, Cloverfield, etc. etc. — can handle this material pretty well. But I’m guessing there are agents and writers all over Tinseltown trying right now to get other movies going. Quote of the day: Basketball immortal Shaquille O’Neal tells the annual convention of the NCAA why he blew his first $1-million paycheque in less than an hour, mainly on fancy cars: “I made a C in accounting, so I thought I knew what I was doing.”

He’s better with his money now, and has a restaurant chain and a chain of fitness clubs — see how that works? — plus other investments.

John Mayer performed live last week, for the first time in two years. For this momentous event, he chose Bozeman, Mont., but the locale wasn’t quite as strange as it sounds.

Mayer owns a ranch in nearby Pine Creek, and last August it almost burned down but was saved, more or less, by local firefighters. Mayer was in L.A. around that time, having vocal-cord surgery. The concert was a fundraiser for the fire department and brought in more than $100,000, says the Bozeman Daily Chronicle. (I reads ’em all!)

Remember the original George Barris- designed Batmobile, from the 1960s TV series, being up for auction? Somebody paid $4.6 million for it, even though it was only the first of six identical ones made for the show.

The buyer was Rick Champagne, a Phoenix businessman and collector.
