THIS WEEK’S TOP TV TIPS
SUNDAY Curiosity
The final episode of this season, Monster Squid:
The Giant is Real, features the first-ever footage of a giant squid – the real-life incarnation of sea monster legends such as the Norse monster Kraken and the Scylla from Greek mythology. Working with the Japanese broadcaster NHK for the past four years, the filmmakers finally captured images of the monster deep in the Pacific Ocean during a mission that involved 55 sub dives, two deep sea submersibles and a team of scientists.

‘Southie’ refers to a dying way of life in a workingclass area of South Boston where multi-generational families live together under one roof, and the New Year’s Day plunge into the frigid harbour is a given. But all is not well in South Boston: yuppies are moving in, driving up real estate prices, bringing with them sushi bars and $5 cups of coffee, and driving out long- time locals. But this entertaining family, whose main source of income is the local tattoo parlour, are determined to stay put.

THURSDAY
30 Rock
It’s hard to believe that this popular sitcom has come to the end of the road, but tonight marks the final episode of the show-within-a-show starring Tina Fey and Alec Baldwin, along with Jane Krakowski, Tracy Morgan and Jack McBrayer. Liz Lemon (Fey) got married off a few weeks back; but we don’t know how the series will end for the rest of the players.

Doc Zone
Tonight’s documentary,
Generation Jobless, takes a critical look at the growing unemployment rate among university and college graduates in their early to midtwenties. The rate hovers around 15 per cent, nearly twice the national average, and is blamed on globalization, automation and the fact that many 60 to 65year-olds can no longer afford to retire. The doc takes a look at the approach of the Swiss, where the rate is down to 2.8 per cent.

Do No Harm
This might be easier said than done if you’re a doctor whose split personality harbours a violent psycho who takes over in the evening and gets his kicks from drugs and sex. Steven
Pasquale plays both neurosurgeon Jason Cole and his disastrous alter ego Ian Price; Alana De La Garza costars as a neurologist who is in love with him (them?).
NBC
Income Property
Scott McGillivray is back helping potential homeowners as they hunt for incomeproducing properties, and then assisting them with renovations to create a rental suite. The show has grown from updating basement apartments to bigger investment opportunities – including not only real estate and renovating tips but money management.
