Launch party features Feist
Singer-songwriter Feist will open this summer’s Montreal International Jazz Festival with a free outdoor show on the night of June 28, a Friday.
Feist, whose latest album, Metals, won the 2012 Polaris Music Prize and hit the Top 10 of the Billboard 200 album sales chart, last played the jazz festival in 2005.
The opening outdoor show at the jazz festival — which last year featured Montreal singer-songwriter Rufus Wainwright, and has starred artists ranging from Pat Metheny to Stevie Wonder — generally draws more than 100,000 people to the Place des Festivals.
The complete lineup of outdoor shows will be announced Tuesday, June 4.
Among the indoor concerts that have already been announced are Aretha Franklin, Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra featuring Wynton Marsalis, Pink Martini, the Ravi Coltrane Quartet, the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Oliver Jones, Belle & Sebastien, She & Him, Holly Cole, Wayne Shorter, Joshua Redman Quartet, George Benson, Woodkid, Dr. John & the Nite Trippers and Leon Russell, Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings, Nikki Yanofsky, Fitz & the Tantrums, EmilieClaire Barlow and the Cat Empire.
