Rocker Osbourne speaks out over Glee star’s death

Links Monteith tragedy with his own drug past

Bat-biting rocker Ozzy Osbourne has spoken out over the death of Victoria-raised actor Cory Monteith — with a warning about the perils of drugs.

In an interview with Chicago’s WGN-TV to promote the new Black Sabbath album 13, the legendary headbanger said many of his friends have died from substance abuse and he is “living on borrowed time.”

The Sabbath frontman, who has a long history of drug abuse, said: “I went through all that stuff and I survived, but you know what? I haven’t got many friends that I used to do it with that are alive. They’re all dead.”

Osbourne also admitted he struggled to tap his creative side without the aid of alcohol.

“I used to think I couldn’t write or perform songs without a drug or a drink inside me, and that’s a load of crap,” he said.

In a stark warning, Osbourne added: “I’m living on borrowed time. Don’t think that if Ozzy Osbourne can stay alive through it, that you’ll do it, because it didn’t work like that …

“You don’t need alcohol and you don’t need drugs to make music and have fun. … In recent months, I had another go at it, and it nearly destroyed me again.”

The B.C. Coroners’ Service has said Glee star Monteith, 31, died of an overdose of heroin and alcohol. He was found dead in his Vancouver hotel room Saturday.

Meanwhile, the latest season of Glee has been postponed for a month as the cast and crew continue to mourn for the Calgary-born entertainer.

The future of the smash Fox show was thrown into doubt after the sudden death of the 31-year-old, who played athlete Finn Hudson and was beloved by cast, crew and fans.

“Everyone is in shock,” a source told E! News.

“To say Cory was much loved on the Glee set doesn’t even begin to do him justice.”

Writers are now altering scripts to account for Finn’s absence.
