THIS WEEK’S TOP TV TIPS
SATURDAY
Top of the Lake
Elisabeth Moss
( Mad Men) stars in this seven part miniseries as Det. Robin Griffin who returns to her small community in New Zealand to care for her mother. A child protection specialist, she is immediately seconded by the local police to take on the case of a pregnant 12-year-old girl name Tui ( Jacqueline Joe) who has disappeared. With few clues to go on, the town’s longburied secrets begin to unravel and everyone is under suspicion. The series also stars Holly Hunter as a guru at a local women’s camp, and Peter Mullan as Tui’s drug-lord father. Bravo
Being Human (U.K.)
Tonight is the series finale of the popular British series starring Michael Socha as werewolf Tom, Damien Molony as vampire Hal and
Kate Bracken as our favourite ghost Alex. It finds Hal ready to return to his vampire ways now that he has built an army and feasted on blood, and Tom determined to kill him in an act of revenge. In the finale, the trio face off against the evil Capt. Hatch (Phil
Davis) – the devil himself. Space
SUNDAY
The Newsroom
In this new episode, a storyline that will have a big impact down the road begins to emerge as the network receives a tip on a lead that will have disastrous consequences for it. Mackenzie and Sloan (Emily Mortimer and Olivia Munn) continue to push Will ( Jeff Daniels) on the drone issue, and Maggie ( Alison Pill) gets the assignment she’d been hoping for.

MONDAY
Murdoch Mysteries
Yannick Bisson
Fans of and the Det. Murdoch mysteries won’t want to miss this new episode in which Murdoch crosses paths with a man claiming to be the great literary sleuth, Sherlock Holmes. Played by Andrew
Glover, the man is at the top of Murdoch’s suspect list as he pursues a murderous gang of thieves. First Winston Churchill, now Sherlock Holmes; maybe Murdoch is becoming delusional. CBC
TUESDAY
Sharktopus
If you like scary movies, watch this 2010 offering as a diabolical hybrid of a shark and an octopus – created by a genetic scientist as the U.S. Navy’s next superweapon – escapes to Puerto Vallarta (likely during the winter months) after its control implants are damaged. It’s up to hotshot mer- cenary ( Eric Roberts) and his associates to stop the beast from terrorizing the folks in Mexico. Space
WEDNESDAY
Top Chef Masters
Twelve of North America’s finest chefs are back, along with their sous chefs, to compete for the title of Top Chef Master and a prize of $100,000 for the charity of their choice. Canada is well represented by Food Network host Lynn Crawford, who will go head-to-head with her peers as she attempts to win for the Odette Cancer Centre in Toronto. Her sous chef, Lora
Kirk, will also compete in a new online competition,
Battle of the Sous Chefs,
hosted by Canuck Hugh Acheson. Food Network
Masterchef
Still in the mood for food, there’s a new twist to this popular competition as the chefs compete in what is being billed as ‘the hunger games.’ The home cooks are taken to a remote field where they are split into two teams and compete in the first-ever overnight challenge. With only a limited box of supplies to cook with, they have to prepare an impressive lunch for the judges. The losing team will face an intimidating sugar dessert pressure test. We don’t think judges Gordon Ramsay, Joe Bastianich and Graham Elliot will necessarily be camping out. Fox, CTV
THURSDAY
Hell’s Kitchen
Tonight is the two-hour season finale in which chef
Gordon Ramsay will announce the names of the two chefs competing for the title and a life-changing grand prize as a head chef at Ramsay’s Pub and Grill in Caesars Palace. After the chefs are treated to a luxurious trip to Las Vegas, the oven mitts come off and they compete head-to-head in a live cooking challenge. Oh, the pressure. Fox, City
Boston’s Finest
In the season finale of this reality TV series, Jen Penton, who is a top patrol officer very good at solving problems on the job, faces a tough situation when her twin sister, an addict, reaches out to her for help.
Winston DeLeon and his colleagues in the fugitive unit pursue a suspect in a 1992 rape case, while the gang unit is called in to help out on a SWAT raid. Bravo
Be the Boss
Those of you who are old enough to remember jazzercise – way before zumba – which combined jazz dance, resistance training, Pilates, yoga and a form of kickboxing – shouldn’t miss an opportunity to relive their past as two jazzercise instructors go head-to-head for what they think is a promotion, but which will end with the winner receiving her own franchise. There’s even an apparent wardrobe malfunction to keep things interesting. W
