Nepton, Unttld, Martin Lim and a coterie of newcomers on the catwalks
Yes, Montreal Fashion Week is rolling around again. Next week, the 25th edition of MFW under the production of Sensation Mode unfolds at Griffintown’s Arsenal with collections for next spring and summer.
About 20 designers are taking part, including known names Mélissa Nepton (whose collection for Target will also be previewed), Muse by Christian Chenail, Unttld, Helmer, Ève Gravel, Travis Taddeo and Martin Lim.
There are newcomers, too: Impair, Brit Wacher and Marilyne Baril hold a group show. Wacher, raised on a farm in Western Canada, has an intriguing show title: The Intolerable Space Between. Xavier Laruelle (see story this page) makes a solo debut. Another newcomer to the Montrealer catwalk is Caroline Constas, now based in New York working on her luxury namesake fashion line.
The public can buy tickets to shows at $25 for a single show, $75 for a day pass, and $175 for a weekly pass. Tickets are available at www.ticketpro.ca.
If you prefer to shop the collections (fall edition), there’s a special pop-up event: the Cabinet Éphémère, a sale of 19 designers chez nous, is timed to fashion week. The Conseil des créateurs de mode du Québec is behind the sale, and labels taking part include Nadya Toto, Unttld, Marie Saint Pierre, Harricana and La Montréalaise Atelier. It runs Sept. 4-8 at 480 Ste-Catherine St. W. For more details: www.cabinet-ephemere.com.
