Create a Conseil des aînés, a body to advise the mayor of Montreal and city and borough councils on all matters related to seniors. The council would be composed of 15 members named to three-year mandates. There would be an equal number of women and men (excluding the chairperson) and reflect the diversity and geography of the city.
Develop a favourable environment to seniors to encourage their autonomy and well-being by increasing services in recreation, sports, culture and improving public-transit service.
Make innovative services and equipment available in all neighbourhoods. For example, in parks, offer exercise areas for adults and seniors.
Health and safety: set aside special areas for the elderly in public and community gardens to combat isolation and foster healthy lifestyles; support the development of shared taxi services; improve the offer of recreational services and sports adapted for seniors; encourage multigenerational activities.
Promote activities, artist residencies in libraries, cultural centres and institutions (schools, hospitals, seniors’ homes, etc.).
With the financial support of the Quebec government, build 15,000 social and community housing units over five years, including universally accessible homes commensurate with needs.
