BEST ACTRESS
Nominees:
Amy Adams, American Hustle; Cate Blanchett, Blue Jasmine; Sandra Bullock, Gravity; Judi Dench, Philomena; Meryl Streep, August: Osage County.
THOMPSON:
Sandra Bullock. Cate Blanchett has the old familiar voice of Woody Allen to guide her dysfunction but Bullock’s desperate astronaut faces new physical and psychological frontiers and excels on all performance levels.
MONK:
Cate Blanchett. She appears in practically every scene in Blue Jasmine, and each frame finds a different face as she plays a woman circling the drain of life. Blanchett allows us to follow the slide of ego and position one tumble at a time.
STONE:
Cate Blanchett. The entire movie can be read in the shifts on her face. She gives a great performance as a dreamer coming to terms with harsh reality.
