GERMANS SAVE ROMAN GOLD HOARD

-

German authorities have rescued a Roman gold hoard worth more than $1.5 million Cdn after it was dug up illegally by an amateur treasure hunter scouring a forest with a metal detector. The treasure hunter had intended to keep his find secret and is thought to have sold off some of the gold and silver jewelry on the black market, The Local news site reports. The state archeological authority in Rhineland-Palatinate said the hoard, which once belonged to a “very important” Roman ruler, will soon be put on display at a special exhibition.
