NEPAL PUNCHES UP SECURITY ON EVEREST
Fits of pique on the world’s tallest mountain have prompted Nepal to overhaul security on Mount Everest. Soldiers and police will be stationed at Everest base camp after a brawl last year between three European climbers and Sherpa guides highlighted concerns about overcrowding on the “roof of the world.” Nepal has slashed climbing fees for mountain expeditions, fuelling worries that even more foot traffic could lead to more tension and more high-altitude fisticuffs.
