Mélissa Nepton
Bundles her signature style in a heightened confidence.
Agiant grey scarf the size of a blanket is just the ticket for a snowy night in March this frigid winter. Ditto for slouchy, marled grey sweatpants.
Graphic black-on-white exaggerated palazzo jumpsuit? Not so much. Unless you’re at the chalet, with a very warm fire burning — and you don’t get too close to the flames.
Mélissa Nepton staged her fall/ winter show in a magical setting in the attic of the Auberge Saint-Gab- riel, hitting all her signature notes: cosy, easy, comfortable dressing.
But this season, with the Target Emerging Designer Award under her belt (in the show, the belts were leather-like, wide and cinched — not an easy option for many women), Nepton showed more confidence, pushing her boundaries. The award came with a cash prize and a collaborative collection in Quebec Target stores this past holiday season.
The palazzo pants were particularly large, and a lot of fun, actually.
Most of the collection played on mixed media. Textured cream wool was mixed with gold jacquards, and there were plenty of cute little leather-like items — a bustier with mini flirty skirt fit for clubbing, but also a more sophisticated to-the-knee skirt with subtly shining jacquard tank.
Hush Puppies and Maybelline sponsored, and the cava flowed preshow, giving the fashion crowd a nice lift in a season in which fashion week is on hold.
Nepton showed her fall collection at Toronto’s fashion week Tuesday night.
