Fall release for Trudeau memoir
‘Candid’ book to land during election run-up
OTTAWA — Justin Trudeau will tell his “life’s story” in a memoir to be published this fall — one year before he goes to the polls asking Canadian voters to make him prime minister.
The Liberal leader’s book will be published by HarperCollins Canada, the publisher announced Tuesday. The “personal memoir” will appear in both English and French.
“Mr. Trudeau’s candid memoir will reveal to its readers the experiences that have shaped him over the course of his life and show how his passion for Canada and its people took root,” the publisher said in a news release.
“Covering the years from his childhood at 24 Sussex to his McGill days during the tumultuous time of the Charlottetown accord to his first campaign in Papineau to his role as Liberal leader today, the book will capture the foundational moments that have formed the man we have come to know and informed his vision for the future of Canada.”
HarperCollins said the book will be “filled with anecdotes, personal reflections, and never-before-seen photographs from his own collection.” It also promised that the memoir will show how the events of his life “have led him to this moment and prepared him for the future.”
Trudeau grew up in the public spotlight as the son of the late Liberal prime minister Pierre Tru- deau. He later studied at Montreal’s McGill University before moving to British Columbia for a job as a teacher. He entered politics in 2008, winning a seat in a Montreal riding.
In a statement released by the publisher, Trudeau said he is “pleased to have this opportunity to tell my life’s story, particularly as a teacher, Member of Parliament, and father.
HarperCollins said that all proceeds from the book will be donated to the “domestic programs of the Canadian Red Cross Society.”
