West Island Liberal candidates Martin Coiteux (Nelligan) and Carlos Leitao (Robert-Baldwin) are set to bring their respective provincial election campaigns back to the West Island.

Leitao, who is running to replace retiring Liberal MNA Pierre Marsan and Coiteux, who is set to replace Liberal MNA Yolande James, will be at the Pierrefonds-Roxboro commuter train station from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m. Wednesday.

From the Quebec economy to the Charter of Values and Bill 14, an act to change accessibility to post-secondary education, commuters will have a chance to raise their concerns with the two candidates.

Since being introduced March 9 at Liberal incumbent Geoffrey Kelley’s campaign offices in Beaurepaire, both Leitao and Coiteux have spent much of their time campaigning outside of the West Island, the Liberal party’s stronghold.

As members of Liberal party leader Philippe Couillard’s new economic team, both candidates are expected to play important roles if elected as members of a new Liberal government along with Jacques Daoust, a third member of Couillard’s economic team running, who is running in Verdun.

Leitao joined Laurentian Bank Securities from the Royal Bank in 2003 as its chief economist. He joined the firm’s management committee the following year. In 2006, he was appointed to the Laurentian Bank of Canada’s Risk Management Committee and he has also been a member of the Bank of Canada’s Quebec panel since 2007.

Coiteux is a specialist in monetary policies and comparative economies. He has worked as a senior economist for the past two years with the Bank of Canada as well as teaching at HEC Montréal. He has authored many scientific articles on economic policies in Quebec and Canada.
