Kirkland is offering new parents the opportunity to cele- brate the arrival of a new baby by planting a tree that will grow tall as their son or daughter grows along with it.

The program, called One Birth, One Tree is being directed at parents of children, who are born or adopted between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31 of 2014.

Parents are invited to choose from five species of trees.

Parents can plant the tree on their own property or request it be planted in a city park or green space.

Kirkland residency at the time of the birth or adoption is the only prerequisite.

Interested parents must apply within six months of their baby’s birth or adoption.
