19 restaurant­s fined by city’s food agency

A long- standing Pointe- Claire restaurant was levied $ 13,500 in fines before it closed for business. It was one of 19 West Island eateries convicted of offences in the past year for infraction­s related to food inspection­s.

The Pavillon Wong, a fixture on Sources Blvd. for about two decades, received fines totalling $ 10,000 in January and April and another $ 3,500 in a November 2013 judgment based on several inspection­s carried out at the buffet- style eatery, according to Montreal’s food inspection department.

Two fines totalling $ 4,200 were issued for not keeping the premises free of contaminan­ts, pollutants, and any species of animals, including insects and rodents or their droppings. Other fines cited not keeping food cooled properly until preparing and serving, as well as a general lack of cleanlines­s, from equipment to utensils.

Another 18 West Island restaurant­s also were convicted of offences this past year following visits by Montreal food inspectors, often carried out a year prior to a judgment being rendered. In many cases, the fines dealt with not keeping equipment or the premises clean.

A few of these eateries have since closed, including Nouveau Maison Kam, which was fined $ 8,500 in April based on inspection­s carried out in 2013. The Pierrefond­s eatery was taken to task for food storage and cleanlines­s.

The Basha restaurant in Dollarddes- Ormeaux was levied $ 1,750 in fines in May regarding cleanlines­s and the lack of hairnet/ beard coverings. In September 2013, it also was fined $ 2,500.

Lahore Karahi was levied a $ 1,350 fine in April and another $ 1,400 fine in December 2013, based on inspection­s citing cleanlines­s issues and the need for a person working in the kitchen to use a hairnet or a full covering for a beard.

Restaurant New Kwality in Pier- refonds was levied $ 1,750 in fines in September for not keeping some food products stored properly and for general cleanlines­s issues.

McKibbins Irish Pub in PointeClai­re was fined $ 1,500 in May, after an inspection in early 2013 found some food products must be kept cooled before being prepared.

Restaurant Delibee in PointeClai­re was levied a $ 1,250 fine in August based on an inspection conducted a year ago. It was noted equipment, materials and utensils used in preparing food at the deli must be kept clean.

The Tai Express/ Sushi Shop in the Dorval Gardens mall was fined $ 1,200 in August for not properly storing some food until it needs to be prepared and served.

The Fang Express eatery in Dorval was fined $ 1,200 in January for not keeping food properly cooled before being prepared and served.

Del Friscos i n Dollard- desOrmeaux was fined $ 1,200 in September regarding food being kept cool until needed.

The Muffin Plus outlet in PointeClai­re was fined $ 1,000 in October regarding sanitary conditions that were noted during an inspection last year.

A number of other eateries were fined for lack of cleanlines­s. They include:

Wings Buffalo Bill in Pierrefond­s, fined $ 1,300 this past September and a $ 900 fine in December 2013.

The Taco Bravo eatery in PointeClai­re, levied a $ 1,500 fine in December 2013.

Restaurant La Roulotte in SteGeneviè­ve, fined $ 1,350 fine in November 2013.

The Bagel Bar in Dorval, fined $ 1,300 fine in March.

The Tandoori Bellevue in SteAnne-de- Bellevue, fined $ 1,300 in May.

The Ile Centro restaurant, which ceased operations in Pointe- Claire Village, fined $ 1,200 in May.

La Porte Grecque in Dollard- desOrmeaux, fined $ 1,200 in August.

The À La Japonaise restaurant in Pointe- Claire, levied a $ 950 fine in April.
