Poetry smooths rides on the Tube
The soothing stanzas of W.B. Yeats and other poets will soon help passengers on the London Underground to while away their journeys. The works of the Irish writer, and others such as Seamus Heaney and Patrick Kavanagh, will be featured on “tube” carriages beginning this month as part of a plan to bring poetry to a wider audience. Transport for London also will print 100,000 copies of an anthology celebrating Irish poetry, which will be distributed free on the Underground, the Irish Independent reported.
