Leafs humiliated once again
Just when you thought the Toronto Maple Leafs couldn’t be any more dysfunctional, we had the suspension of Nazem Kadri. The seventh overall choice at the 2009 NHL draft was originally suspended one game by the Leafs for being late for a team meeting last Sunday and team president Brendan Shanahan — who knows something about discipline — tacked on another two games. It seemed like a harsh punishment for the offence, but Shanahan added a cryptic element when he suggested Kadri’s transgression went beyond tardiness. That sort of statement is never helpful because it leads to speculation as the media and fans wonder about the “real” story. As for Kadri, he says he felt humiliated, which is the way the Leafs feel most nights.
