End intimidation on campus
Re: “Stop pushing anti-Israel BDS on campus” (Opinion, March 13) As a university graduate, a taxpayer who helps fund education, and a parent of teenagers who will enter the university system within the next few years, I agree wholeheartedly with the authors of this piece: enough is enough!
Video footage from many university campuses across North America is chilling, showing mobs of screaming students — often accompanied by faculty members — their faces twisted with rage, harassing, intimidating, pushing, shoving and spitting upon those brave students who dare to defend Israel. Worse yet, while members of the anti-Israel faction insist on their right to free speech, they routinely deny this right to pro-Israel speakers, preventing them from presenting an alternate viewpoint through the use of boorish tactics that include shouting them down, booing and hissing loudly and generally behaving like hooligans.
Ironically, this egregious behaviour goes unpunished in an era where schools have taken a firm stance on zero tolerance for bullying. If our high schools take bullying seriously, why do our universities continue to tolerate the harassment and intimidation of Jewish students on campus? Hena Kon, Montreal
