Banning niqab is not very Canadian
The niqab is definitely not “contrary to our own values” as the prime minister put it. And the present arrangement permitted by the Supreme Court — allowing the woman to show her face in private to a female officer — poses no security threat whatsoever.
It is un-Canadian that the Harper government wants to ban the niqab during the ceremonies. Why should we forget about the freedom of religion during the ceremonies? And the only thing “anti-women” here is Harper telling women what they can and cannot wear. Fasih Malik, Calgary
