Cotillard will star in Xavier Dolan’s next film

-

Montreal’s Seville International has announced Xavier Dolan’s next film, Juste la fin du monde (Only the End of the World), saying Tuesday it aims to launch the work at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival.

The film will star Oscarwinning actress Marion Cotillard (La Vie en Rose), Léa Seydoux (Spectre, The Grand Budapest Hotel), Vincent Cassel (Black Swan), Nathalie Baye (Laurence Anyways) and Gaspard Ulliel (Saint Laurent, Hannibal Rising).

A Cannes veteran at the age of 26, Dolan will adapt and direct the Jean-Luc Lagarce play of the same name, which starred Dolan’s muse, Anne Dorval. It tells the story of a writer’s return to his hometown after 12 years, when he plans to announce his upcoming death.

The production is set to begin at the end of May, before Dolan’s next planned project, The Death and Life of John F. Donovan, which has the names Susan Sarandon, Jessica Chastain and Kit Harington (Game of Thrones) attached.

“Anne Dorval had brought the beautiful play from Jean-Luc Lagarce to my attention many years ago, but the time didn’t seem right back then and it ended in the ‘long-term drawer,’” Dolan said.

“The shooting for John F. Donovan has gotten me really excited, but it’s not going before next fall. I thought Juste la fin du monde could very well bridge the genre chasm between Mommy and John F.”

Dolan was recently named a jurist for the Cannes Film Festival.
