Montreal’s West Hill Grandmothers, a group of volunteers who raise money to help grandmothers in Africa bringing up their grandchildren because the parents have died of AIDS, will hold a fundraising fashion show downtown on Saturday.

The event will take place from 3 to 5 p.m. in Kildonan Hall of the Church of St. Andrew and St. Paul, 3415 Redpath St.

The creations of Montreal designer Travis Taddeo will be showcased and musical entertainment provided by the I Medici di McGill String Quartet, the Montreal Intercultural Choir and folksinger Glenna McConnell. Debra Arbec, anchor at CBC TV news, will be master of ceremonies. Refreshments will be served. Call 450-6882213 to reserve a ticket. Tickets are to be paid for, in cash, at the door.

The West Hill Grandmothers is a group of about a dozen volunteers who have raised more than $25,000 for the Grandmothers to Grandmothers campaign of the Stephen Lewis Foundation since the group was founded in 2006 by Thérèse Bourque, who was 84 at the time. She died in 2011.

They usually hold two major annual fundraisers. The fashion show, being held for the first time, represents a more ambitious initiative, said Catherine Richards, a member of the West Hill Grandmothers. Learn more at: westhillgrandmothers.wix.com/ grandmothers.
