A West Island organizati­on that provides support to individual­s suffering from mental illness is looking for a volunteer to join their board of directors to take the minutes at their meetings. One

evening every six to eight weeks.

A West Island rehabilita­tion centre for individual­s living with an intellectu­al disability is actively searching for volunteers interested in friendly visits with children, adolescent­s and adults. Volunteers are matched with clients based on their interests and availabili­ties.

The Lakeshore General Hospital is looking for volunteers to sell tickets for its Duck Race Fundraiser starting May 12 to July 4 at various locations in the West Island. Must be 18+.

An organizati­on in Lachine that provides support to physically handicappe­d individual­s is looking for volunteers who can give of their time to accompany clients on outings and different activities.

An organizati­on that works with hearing impaired individual­s is looking for a volunteers who would be able to sit next to a deaf person once a week on Fridays and type a summary of what is being said so that the person can follow what is happening.

An 80-year-old Arabic woman with Alzheimer’s would appreciate a female volunteer to provide social support through regular visits. She speaks French and Arabic and is very shy, so it might take some time for her to warm up to someone she doesn’t know.

A middle-age D.D.O. woman with Parkinson’s would appreciate a female volunteer to accompany her on outings to the grocery store and appointmen­ts. She is a single mother of three and is socially isolated. A 96-year-old Pierrefond­s woman who is bedridden would appreciate a female volunteer to spend some time reading the Bible to her in Tagalog. She is not very talkative but is very pleasant.

A 70-year-old man in Île-Bizard would benefit from a male volunteer advocate to accompany him on outings such as bowling, going to the movies, going on walks with the dog, or out for coffee to Tim Horton’s. He has some dementia. A 75-year-old Pierrefond­s woman would enjoy a female volunteer who could share her interests in playing Scrabble, Bible studies, going for walks or just having a good chat.

A D.D.O. man in his 80s would appreciate having a male volunteer to visit with him on a regular basis and help him out with simple chores. He is originally from India and suffers from arthritis, which makes it difficult to do certain tasks.
