Help available for cancer patients

Re: “Hospital buildings are connected” (Letters to the editor, July 11)

I had to undergo radiation at the Montreal General Hospital and did so for six weeks.

I received a letter from the oncology department so as I could obtain a parking permit at a special rate, which ended up costing me $85 in total, as opposed to $25 per day for six weekly visits. There is even a special area to park right at the front door that is reserved for cancer patients. This can be a writeoff on your taxes and you are also permitted to write off the mileage to go to and from the hospital. Today, I still visit the hospital to see various specialists and continue to claim whatever I can against my income taxes.
