Apparently there are special rules for Brosnan

- DOUG CAMILLI tellcamilli@gmail.com

Somebody tries to take a hunting knife onto an airplane, in his shoulder bag. This happens at a U.S. airport. But the guy is permitted to board anyway — no charges, no jail time, no strip search, not even the usual police beating. And he’s allowed to take the knife with him. Must be a celebrity.

Step forward Pierce Brosnan. This happened at the airport in Burlington, Vt. on Sunday. The local paper has only a sketchy story, and spelled his name wrong, but the Daily Mail has details, and even photos. Brosnan was apparently flying to Detroit, with his son Paris. The bone-handled folding knife was 10 inches (25 cm) long when open.

Transportation Security Administration people did make the actor take off his belt and all. And he got mad: “I can’t believe they’re doing this,” he said, fuming.

He’s 62. Paris is 14.

When he was in his 20s, European actor Max von Sydow played a Crusader knight in the immortal Ingmar Bergman movie The Seventh Seal. Now, at 86, he’s taken a role in Game of Thrones. Truly, it’s hell to get old.

He’ll be in season six of GoT — or part of it anyway, I suppose, until he gets killed.

In the world of country music,

there are many celebrity couples, and a steady supply of rumours about infidelity, booze, drugs and pending divorces. (Hey, it’s country music.)

But nobody saw this Reba McEntire-Narvel Blackstock separation coming, Country Music Television reports on its website. The news “came as a huge surprise to fans and the Nashville music industry.”

The two announced Tuesday that they’ve already been separated for months. He’s also her manager, and that relationship will continue, they said.

They’ve been married 26 years; their son Shelby Blackstock is a race-car driver. Narvel is 58. Reba’s 60.

I dunno about you, but I wake up most mornings focused on one hope: “Maybe this will be the day they announce a Pez candy movie.”

Well, Tuesday was my lucky day. Deadline.com reported that the candy company has agreed that Envision Media Arts should make an animated big-screen movie about the product.

The candy in the little springloaded dispenser is 88 years old, and there are adults who collect the various holders. But how they’re going to make a kiddies’ movie out of this I can’t quite imagine.

The world’s best-paid actor?

Robert Downey Jr., for the third straight year.

Forbes mag has issued its annual list, led by Downey at $80 million US. Second: Jackie Chan, at $50 million. Then come Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Adam Sandler and Tom Cruise. For the first time, the mag went outside the U.S., and Bollywood stars Amitabh Bachchan, Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar held the next three places. Mark Wahlberg, at $32 million, was 10th.

This was for the 12 months ending last June 1. There’ll be a separate list (with lower numbers) for females.
