Draft pick signs with Swiss league
Potential 2016 top NHL draft pick Auston Matthews will play in Switzerland this season. Matthews signed a one- year deal to play for the ZSC Lions in the Swiss National League A instead of spending the year with the Everett Silvertips of the Western Hockey League. The 17- year- old had been linked to the Zurich- based team for several months. He missed the cut for the 2015 NHL Draft by three days and is projected to go first in 2016. The Scottsdale, Ariz., native had 48 points last season for the U. S. National Team Development Program. The deal begins Sept. 18, the day after Matthews turns 18.
