SUN YOUTH BASKETBALL OFFSEASON STANDOUTS
At Sun Youth you can’t throw a rock without hitting an athlete, some trophy or a championship banner; after all, the organization’s pedigree is deeply rooted in athletics. The legacy continues with two members of the Sun Youth Hornets’ basketball program who performed exceptionally well this off-season. First is Trenton Dias who earned a place on Quebec’s U15 basketball team despite being only 14 years old. The team brought home a silver medal at the National Championships in Halifax earlier this summer where Canada’s best young players competed. The second is 16 year-old standout Eze Dike-Nwagbara whose abilities on and off the court have seized the attention of many coaches in the basketball community. Academically, Eze maintains an 80% plus average at his high school, LCC. On the court he’s a force to be reckoned with, representing Quebec’s U17 team which finished third at the Nationals. Eze was also invited to the Super Session at the Five-Star Basketball camp held in Brewster, New York, where he made the All-Star team. The camp is historically known for having the best prospects in the United States and some of its alumni include Michael Jordan, Lebron James, Kevin Durant, Dwayne Wade and Chris Paul, to name a few. His latest accomplishment was earning the MVP award at the Quebec 2015NPH showcase last weekend and here’s what they had to say about why he was chosen for the award: “It was his overall performance and approach to the game on and off the floor. Talented but more importantly humble, hard working with strong academics”. The future looks bright for Sun Youth’s Eze Dike-Nwagbara! Sun Youth is still looking for boys ages 6 to 11 years old for this fall’s development program.
