Broke backpacker allegedly robbed bank

An Australian man is expected to appear in a Thai court next month to answer charges that he robbed a bank so he could afford a plane ticket home. The 23-yearold allegedly held up the Bangkok bank branch while brandishing a BB gun and wearing a Guy Fawkes mask and goggles, the Bangkok Post reported. He was handed a wad of cash but only made it a couple of hundred metres before being arrested. The paper said the hard-up Aussie was staying in the city’s red-light district but had burned through his holiday cash within a month and decided to raid the bank so he could buy a plane ticket back to Australia.
