‘The Shining’ hotel to open museum
The Colorado hotel that inspired Stephen King to write The Shining, the chilling novel that became a bestseller and was later filmed by Stanley Kubrick, is opening a “horror museum” to capitalize on the book’s enduring popularity. The Stanley Hotel, in Estes Park, is planning an exhibition space that would feature travelling displays, as well as a sound stage and production space, the Los Angeles Times reported. The Stanley Film Center is expected to cost $24 million US. King stayed at the hotel, which opened in 1909, in the late 1970s when its lustre was fading and its reputation for being haunted was growing.
