Project Greenlight: The Leisure Class (HBO, 10 p.m.)

So what have Ben Affleck and Matt Damon mentored out of their latest Project Greenlight acolyte, Jason Mann? This is the end result of the eight-episode season following the trials of a first-time director. In this resulting movie, there's a wedding, plenty of tension, an unwanted guest, oh, and a pile of excrement on the Bentley. The Mindy Project's Ed Weeks plays the groom, poor dear.

Kareem: Minority of One (HBO Canada, 10 p.m.)

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, the 68-year-old 7-foot-2 father of the skyhook, has been retired from the NBA since he ended his 20-season run in 1989, but still holds the basketball league's all-time scoring record at 38,387. You might already know some of the previous info. But did you also know he is also a first-time novelist? His Mycroft Holmes, about the famous detective's brother, follows 10 non-fiction bestsellers. While famous, the notoriously media-averse AbdulJabbar has always been a bit of a sphinx, but he's apparently turning

the page with this documentary.

WEDNESDAY, NOV. 4

American Horror Story: Hotel (AMC, 10 p.m.)

Never a property known for its subtlety, AHS has taken a few critical hits for the extravagant blood and gore in this outing, set in the gorgeous, grotesque Hotel Cortez. I quite agree. The story of the hotel's founder was so gross I had to look away (for a second). However, I can't stop watching the rest. As the queen of this very sick hive, Lady Gaga says very little, but dominates every scene she's in. The mother-and-child stories revolving around Chloë Sevigny's doctor Alex and Kathy Bates's Iris are sobs caught in my throat. And Denis O'Hare's bald cross-dressing bartender, called Liz Taylor? Love, love, love. Tonight: On Halloween, Alex tries to save a dying patient and a couple works Iris's last nerve.

THURSDAY, NOV. 5

Elementary (Global, CBS, 10 p.m.)

Sherlock (Jonny Lee Miller) has a headache. Not only an actual headache from his recent relapse, but a family headache: his father, Morland Holmes, arrives to check up on him. Played by John Noble (Sleepy Hollow, Fringe), will Morland be as cold and uncaring as Sherlock has described?

The Mindy Project (City, 9:30 p.m.)

City has already been streaming a “sneak peek” of the first seven episodes of the new season of Mindy Kaling 's romantic comedy, but now they begin their old-school TV run. In the Season 4 opener, Mindy is back and reeling from her sort-of rejection by Danny (Chris Messina).

FRIDAY, NOV. 6

Master of None (Season 1, Netflix, as of midnight)

In the new sitcom, Aziz Ansari (Parks & Recreation) plays Dev, a bachelor in New York just trying to get a break, a girl, an anything. Speaking of dating, check out Ansari's book Modern Romance. On a recent road trip, I listened to the audio book, which he also voices, and I found it funny and full of interesting research and observations.

Saturday Night Live (Global, NBC,

11:30 p.m.)

Donald Trump hosts and Sia performs. We will be live-tweeting and talking about one of them nonstop, starting at approximately 11:31 p.m.

SUNDAY, NOV. 8

Getting On (HBO, 10 p.m.)

It's the beginning of the end at the Billy Barnes Extended Care Unit of Mt. Palms Hospital, a.k.a. Hospital Hell. And I'm not just talking about the incriminating stack of files seized at the end of Season 2. The final run of six episodes begins tonight, with Dr. Jenna James (Laurie Metcalf) determined not to let the scandal derail her precious “research” and Nurse DiDi (Niecy Nash) going all Norma Rae. What could possibly go wrong?

Broadcast times are subject to change.

That's it for me this week. Got a question? Spot an error? Find me, tell me. And as always, you would do well to check my daily Watchers picks on the Montreal Gazette's smartphone app in the iTunes and PLAY stores. (It's the blue one — the app, not the store.)
