Built- in appliances, warming features make for comfortable kitchens and bathrooms

- JENNIFER COX

Kitchens and bathrooms are no longer simply utilitarian spaces; they ’ve become the stylish hubs of many busy households.

And it’s not just because of their functions — it’s also because integrated built- in appliances make these stripped- down spaces all the more chic looking, while luxurious features such as warming drawers offer added comfort and warmth to everyday living.

Built- ins comprise a major trend taking over functional rooms like the kitchen. This means individual appliances are built right into the cabinetry, making them look more like pieces of furniture than pieces of equipment.

“Built- in appliances like refrigerators, dishwashers and ovens enable the customer to achieve a ‘ flush’ look to their kitchen esthet- ic; clean lines and minimal gaps provide an uncluttered and simplistic kitchen,” explained Scott Davies, marketing strategy and delivery manager at Fisher Paykel.

“Traditional kitchens generally have preset spaces for products, which leave unsightly gaps around the products — or the appliances they choose cannot be fit flush, leaving the same problem. ( But) built- in appliances such as dishwashers and refrigerators give the customers the choice of a pre- finished look or a panel- ready look.”
