Montreal businesses plan ways to support refugees

Pledge to hire Syrians, offer mentoring

-

Syrian refugees will be invited to attend a form of job fair this spring held by Montreal businesses, to ease their entry into the labour market.

Michel Leblanc, president of Montreal’s Chamber of Commerce, said that more than 50 representatives of the business community have pledged to hire Syrian refugees or offer professional mentoring.

On May 30, several speakers from local businesses will attend a seminar on the Montreal labour market to explain which trades and professions are in demand and to explain Quebec’s work culture. The seminar will be followed by a networking activity.

Leblanc said it is the community’s responsibility to support refugees in their job search and that it believes in their potential for integration and contribution to society and economic development.
