Church, state and rules of marriage

-

Re: “Marriage should not be forced” (Letters to the editor, March 21) Karen Donnelly agrees with Julius Grey (“Marriage without legal responsibility is no marriage at all” Opinion, March 16) that religious marriages should have civil effects.

In my view, since church and state are two separate entities, they should not be mixed. Many churches ban gay unions, but the state does not. The state, on the other hand, bans polygamy, where as some religions do not.

Keep church and state separate, and let the people choose their faith. Steven Penning, La Prairie
