Chalk this up to a fun, DIY idea

-

Think chalkboards are most suitable for schools and post-secondary institutions?

As DIY decor site WooHome discovered, chalkboard paint can also be considered a simple and interactive decor item for your home.

Any surface can accommodate chalkboard paint, such as a home’s walls, furniture, mason jars, flooring … and perhaps one of the best places to showcase chalkboard paint, the kitchen.

Need a place to write a grocery list or complex recipe? Want to replace visual clutter and remove pieces of paper and magnets from your fridge? Paint your refrigerator in chalkboard paint. The added bonus: the ability to erase and rewrite. But do have patience when applying chalkboard paint to your fridge, advises DIY blogger Erin Lauray (erinlauray.com) in her tutorial: “With the chalkboard paint, it is different than normal wall paint … because you have to wait (at least with one particular brand) until the coat is pretty much 95 per cent dry to put on a second coat.”

Other ideas include painting the outside or inside of kitchen cupboard doors, a backsplash area or, a board that can lean on a countertop to serve as a simple chalkboard.

From WooHome’s perspective, “Chalkboard reminds us of happy school days and childhood graffiti.” Plus, “it is fun, cheap, easy and interactive.”

Check local home improvement stores for chalkboard paint pricing.
