Texan gets attention with her towering closet space
They say everything is bigger in Texas and one woman in a wealthy suburban Houston neighbourhood possesses a “she cave” in her mansion that would outdo any man cave.
The homeowner, social climber Theresa Roemer, has a closet that’s an eye-popping 3,000 square feet and three storeys tall, and includes a spiral staircase to reach all three floors. The space earned her media attention, including a profile on ABC’s Good Morning America.
When Roemer hired Houston designer Thom Anderson, she told him she wanted the closet to look like a miniature Neiman Marcus and to be big enough to host a party. “Whenever we threw parties in our other homes, women would always end up squeezed into my closet because they wanted to see all my clothes and shoes,” Theresa told Texas Monthly magazine. “So I thought, why not go all the way with it?”
Roemer’s excessive closet holds more than 30 years’ worth of collections. The 53-year-old has lined every nook and cranny with such prized possessions as her first Louis Vuitton bag, a signed pair of Christian Louboutin heels, her 150 handbags (including 60 Hermès Birkins), and her collection of jewelry (at least 100 pieces). But the most impressive feature has to be (no joke) the champagne bar.
“Can I be honest with you?” she told the magazine. “I wish it was bigger.” However, Roemer confessed that she and her multimillionaire oilman husband plan to sell the property. Affluent real estate firm Mansion Global, is auctioning off the 17,315-square-foot property. So if you happen to have a spare US$5 million, check with Mansion Global sometime this coming spring.
