BAD MOMS (G)

Mila Kunis stars as Amy, whose revelatory moment comes when she realizes the name of the movie she’s in, and decides to stop trying so hard to be the perfect mom. Chemistry among the co-stars (Kunis, Kathryn Hahn, Kristen Bell) propels this frothy, forgettable (and raunchy) comedy. 101 mins. CK ★★★½

BEN-HUR (G)

A $100-million budget and director Timur Bekmambetov aren’t enough to best the 1959 version of this tale of a Jewish prince who becomes a galley slave and then a charioteer with vengeance on his mind. Jack Huston is no Charlton Heston, though Morgan Freeman makes a great character out of a relatively minor role. The rest is passable but hardly inspired. 125 mins. MON AMI DINO (G)

The latest film from director Jimmy Larouche is a most unusual piece, an odd mix of fact and fiction. It’s a portrait of great Montreal actor Dino Tavarone and some of what we see on screen might actually be real. All of it is mighty moving. 80 mins. SUICIDE SQUAD (G)

Director David Ayer’s Day-Glo superhero circus Suicide Squad is a gleefully nihilistic, abysmally messy romp that delights in upending the genre’s conventions and tries desperately to, like, totally blow your mind with its outré freak show. It’s less of a movie than a long trailer that doesn’t provoke as much as it thinks it does, stitched together by an endless jukebox soundtrack. Jake Coyle, The Associated Press. 123 mins. The outrageous, larger-than-life true story is about a pair of boorish entrepreneurial milquetoasts from Miami named Efraim Diveroli and David Packouz, whose exploits furnishing the U.S. military with discount munitions during the War on Terror was duly chronicled by the reporter Guy Lawson in an article for Rolling Stone.
