Man charged with attempted murder
A man has been charged with attempted murder in connection with an attack on a female jogger in the Mont St-Bruno provincial park.
Yves Roy, 46, of Ste-Julie has also been arraigned on charges of forcible confinement and overcoming resistance by strangulation.
Longueuil police say Roy was arrested near his home last Friday, exactly two weeks after the attack on the woman Sept. 2 at Mont- StBruno.
Police released a composite sketch of a suspect after the incident, which they had been investigating as an attempted murder.
Assistant police chief Mario Plante says tip No. 204 out of some 450 led investigators to Roy.
Plante says investigators will now check to see whether Roy can be tied to a number of unresolved cases.
The victim, in her 50s, was jogging when she was attacked during the a midday strike in an isolated sector of the park.
The suspect was unarmed and the woman fought off her attacker, but she was later hospitalized with serious injuries.
Police said she is recovering after suffering fractures to her ribs and ankle as well as numerous bruises.
Insp. Jean-François Robert, head of investigations, says someone close to Roy provided the tip his demeanour had changed, particularly following the day of the attack and the subsequent release of the sketch.
Robert also told a news conference Roy’s DNA was found at the crime scene.
Plante called the attack an isolated incident and said Mont-StBruno park users can rest assured it is a very safe place.
