POWER RANKINGS WEEK 14

-

1

(1) Calgary Instead of glowing about the 2016 Grey Cup champs, it’s time to point out flaws. They’ve given up the second most first downs. They’re allowing the third most passing yards. They have only seven interceptions. Their team completion percentage is only 67.9 per cent. They are surrendering the second most punt yards per return. Only the Alouettes allow opponents to convert on second down more than Calgary. That’s all we could find.

2

(2) B.C. The Lions improved during the bye, scooping up former Ticats 1,000-yard receiver Terrell Sinkfield. The Leos finish their season with a home-and-home against the Roughriders. Life is good in Wally’s World.

3

(3) Winnipeg Despite their impressive run, the Bombers are still in third place in the West, just behind the Lions. They will find out just how good they are this weekend when they travel to Calgary.

4

(4) Hamilton It came as no surprise that Zach Collaros struggled against the Alouettes defence. It has his number and has had it for a long time. That being said, the Ticats still gutted out a victory against a prickly team that didn’t have anything to lose. The Tabbies should get points for that. What they lose points for is Jeff Reinebold’s awful punt team, which has had four punts blocked in its last four games. 5

(6) Toronto Dan LeFevour threw four touchdown passes in his second start with the Boatmen, but it was a third quarter interception that swung the momentum back in the Bombers’ favour on Saturday. LeFevour’s production and Drew Willy’s limited time in the offence means LeFevour will get a third straight start this week in Ottawa. His ability to run with the ball makes the offence dangerous. 6

(5) Ottawa The Redblacks gave it a valiant effort in the second half, but they still ended up losing by 25 points to the scorching hot Stampeders. Trevor Harris’ streak of pass attempts without an interception came to an end at 150, and it marked the second straight year they gave up 48 points to the Red and White.

7

(8) Saskatchewan They needed overtime, but Chris Jones got to beat his former team, and quarterback Darian Durant finally earned his first victory as a starter in two years and 12 days.

8

(7) Edmonton The defending Grey Cup champs now hold the distinction of being the only team that has lost to the Green and White this season with their starting quarterback on the field. Mike Reilly would have had better numbers against the Riders on Sunday but Adarius Bowman reverted to old Adarius Bowman and treated the football like a grenade. The Esks are six points out of a playoff spot with six games to go.

9

(9) Montreal The Alouettes, who have a bye week, are still a team that can’t get it done on the field. They had a chance to beat the Tiger-Cats on Friday, but their tough defence allowed a game-winning march at the worst possible time and Rakeem Cato still looks overwhelmed at quarterback.
