Another weekend of major highway closures

-

Commuters should brace themselves for another weekend of traffic congestion on Montreal’s major roads and bridges:

Highway 20 eastbound near the Montreal West interchange is closed until 5 a.m. Monday. Workers are dismantling the old Exit 64 of eastbound Highway 20.

Highway 138 westbound toward the Mercier Bridge is also closed until Monday at 5 a.m.

At the Turcot Interchange, the ramp connecting Highway 720 to the Champlain Bridge is closed until Monday at 5 a.m. A detour that takes drivers through Côte-St-Luc will be in place for the duration. Access to Highway 720 West from the interchange is also closed as workers are repaving that section of the road. Sherbrooke St. between MacKay St. and de la Montagne St. is closed until Monday at 6 a.m. Workers are replacing a gas line under the road and will be on the job 24 hours a day until the new one is installed.

Victoria Bridge toward the South Shore is closed until Monday at 5 a.m. A crew from Canadian National railways will be on site inspecting the structure.

Jacques Cartier Bridge won’t be accessible in either direction Sunday between 4 a.m. and noon since it’s being used for the Montreal Marathon. Motorists are advised to use the Champlain Bridge or Louis Hippolyte Lafontaine tunnel as alternate ways to get off the island.

Highway 40 westbound will undergo two overnight closures — late Friday into early Saturday and Saturday at 10 p.m. into Sunday morning — from Exit 82 to Langelier Blvd. Drivers can use a detour on the service road.

The Mercier Bridge is down to just one lane in either direction until Saturday at noon. One out of two Montreal-bound lanes will remain closed from Saturday at 10 p.m. to Sunday at noon.

Some good news: the Mohawk Bridge Consortium will be celebrating the end of the Mercier deck replacement project on Tuesday in Kahnawake — marking the end of a series of repairs that began in 2008.
