Three Olympic boxers — including one who bet on himself to lose — have received “severe reprimands” for betting on fights at the Rio Games. Ireland’s Michael Conlan and Steve Donnelly and Britain’s Antony Fowler were censured by the International Olympic Committee for violating anti-betting rules. None of the three won medals, although Conlan lost in the quarter-finals in a disputed decision to Russia’s Vladimir Nikitin. Donnelly bet against himself in a firstround bout but still won.

2017 Canadian GP remains in doubt

The Canadian Grand Prix has an asterisk beside its name on a provisional 2017 Formula One race schedule released Wednesday. The schedule still has 21 races listed, but the stops in Canada, Germany and Brazil are still to be approved by the sports governing body FIA. The Canadian Grand Prix is scheduled for June 11 at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve, but doubts about its future arose last June when F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone questioned whether organizers could fulfil their promise to upgrade the circuit’s pit and paddock areas, grandstands and medical centre by 2017.
