The Youth Corridor refers to that period in adult life when one looks and feels one’s youthful best.

The purpose of The Youth Corridor, and the book of the same name, is to help readers extend that period for decades. It is about an approach to living, self-help, and decoding the often confusing world of beauty, skin care, exercise, diet and even cosmetic surgery.

In other words, it’s about you. Whether we like to admit it, all of us care about how we look. If you are trying to control your weight, or concerned with keeping fit and following a healthy diet, use any amount of skin care and care about how you look and age, then there is something here for you.

Not every topic will interest every reader. But what I hope you will find is a common-sense approach to being your best.

The Youth Corridor is a scientific call to action for antiaging based on my philosophy of prevention, maintenance and correction. For those in their 20s, the objective is to prevent accelerating aging. For the rest of us, it is about maintaining youth and vitality, and even correcting signs of aging one may find unpleasant. In no way do I mean to imply that a 55-year-old could follow these routines and look 25.

But if you haven’t noticed, 55 is no longer old. The average life span for Canadians is 81.2 years, 25 years longer than it was a century ago, and a bit higher than that of Americans. It’s a nice, long life, and we all hope to enjoy it. We want to be healthy, and we want to look our best — it’s a package.

Good looks, good health and good attitude go together.

For four decades, I have been a plastic surgeon with an interest in anti-aging strategies.

Twenty years ago, in the first edition of The Youth Corridor, I offered readers what I have been offering to my patients at my practice; a realistic approach to looking their best. It has been very rewarding to know that over the years, thousands of patients have benefitted from these strategies.

In this weekly column, I intend to address a range of issues, from how we age, what accelerates aging, the science of skin care and self help, information from the experts, and periodically, we will devote this space to answering readers’ questions.

We will also try to directly answer your questions. Feel free to contact us at info@youthcorridorclinic.com. Obviously, not every question will find its way into print, but we will try our best to communicate, and help you live happily in The Youth Corridor.
