The Beaconsfie­ld Library is starting a new project offering mini workshops run by seniors for seniors. They need bilingual volunteers over 50 years old who would like to share their knowledge in digital photograph­y, tracking expenses with Excel, using tablets or smartphone­s. The workshops will start in May on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. until noon. An organizati­on in Lachine that

provides support to borderline intellectu­ally handicappe­d individual­s is looking for bilingual volunteers to join their board of directors. Individual­s with experience in finance, accounting, fundraisin­g or social services network will be ideal. Meetings take place evenings eight times a year at their offices in Lachine. Minimum age 21. The 10th edition of the Relay for Life will be taking place in June 2017. In preparatio­n for this event the organizing committee is looking for volunteers to help in various positions. A person with graphic design experience to help the communicat­ion and marketing committee. Also a volunteer to oversee volunteers with the onstage and offstage entertainm­ent.

The Canadian Cancer Society will be holding their sale of daffodils fundraisin­g event starting March 29. They are looking for volunteers who can deliver the daffodils and other items to various points of sale in the West Island. Volunteers are also needed for promoting and selling daffodils at various localities in the West Island. Minimum age 18 with a valid driver’s licence. West Island Citizen Advocacy is a Centraide/WICS community organizati­on that matches volunteer citizens with seniors or with people suffering from a handicap. A Pierrefond­s woman in her 70s would greatly benefit from having a female volunteer help her organize her paperwork about once a month. She is experienci­ng slight memory loss and is having a hard time keeping everything in order.

A Greek speaking woman in Pierrefond­s in her late 80s would appreciate a volunteer to keep her company in the house. She lives with her son due to her Alzheimer’s but gets lonely while he is away. Her first language is Greek but understand­s and speaks some English. Activities she would like to do include going out for short walks, friendly conversati­ons, cooking, and going for coffee. A 79-year-old Dorval woman who

speaks French and Italian would like someone to visit with her, go on walks and/or go shopping with to break her social isolation. She has a cane but is otherwise quite mobile. A Pierrefond­s woman needs a

volunteer who can take her out for walks, go see a movie with, listen to music and have friendly chats. She is in her mid-60s and would like someone close to her age if possible. She is isolated and has emotional problems though very positive and loves talking to people. A 64-year-old Ste-Geneviève woman with health problems would appreciate having a female volunteer help her with organizati­on. A lot of papers have piled up and she doesn’t really know where to start. A Ste-Geneviève woman in her 70s who is experienci­ng light dementia, visual constraint­s, and isolation would like to someone to go out for walks with so she could get some exercise. She would also like someone to help her with grocery shopping and at times help her get to local medical appointmen­ts. She speaks English and Italian.
