USA SHUTS OUT CANADA 2-0

The three-time defending women’s world hockey champion Team USA defeated Canada 2-0 in their first round robin game Friday. Though Canada has won gold in each of the last four Olympics, the Americans have won six of the last seven world championships. After threatening to boycott the tournament because of a lack of financial support, the U.S. returned to the ice to a loud ovation and rode that support in what looked like a one-sided win. Canada next plays Finland on Saturday.
