Finalists selected for 32nd annual West Island business Accolades
Selecting the finalists for the annual West Island of Montreal Chamber of Commerce Accolades Competition was a harder-thanusual task this year, with a record 127 nominations to consider.
The competition, now in its 32nd year, recognizes excellence in business on the West Island, highlighting businesses in 10 categories. A jury of three business people per category will visit each finalist to determine the winners, who will be announced at the Accolades Gala on June 1.
The finalists include:
Business to Consumer Services: Provigo in Baie-d’Urfé, a grocery store franchise; DLC Greenteam, a landscaping company in Kirkland; Rotisserie St-Hubert Lachine, a family-friendly restaurant franchise; Therma-Pro Solutions, a bed bug control company in St-Laurent that uses K9 detection dogs to sniff out the bugs and eradicate infestations using a unique heat treatment. Distribution: Bulletproof Logistics Inc., a warehouse and distribution company based in Pointe-Claire; Intersac, a Baie-d’Urfé chemical production, manufacturing and distribution company; Globe Electric Company Inc., an 85-year-old lighting design and manufacturing company in Pointe-Claire. Manufacturing: Kamek Precision Tools, a custom injection moulding company in Baie-d’Urfé specializing in high-precision work; PH Windsolutions Inc., a wind turbine manufacturer in St-Laurent; Tornatech, a St-Laurent manufacturer of fire pump controllers.
High Technology and Innovation: ERA Environmental Management Solutions, a software provider in Dollard-des Ormeaux that specializes in tracking and reporting environmental, compliance and health-and-safety issues; Mogile Technologies, the Kirkland-based creator of the ChargeHub app, which helps drivers of electric vehicles find charging stations in North America; Sigma Energy Storage, a Dorval manufacturer of portable, high-efficiency energy storage systems; Walter Surface Technologies, a Pointe-Claire supplier of abrasives, power tools and welding supplies to the metalworking industry.
Export: Aesus Packaging Systems Inc., which packages, fills and labels bottles, boxes and cartons in Pointe-Claire; Tornatech, also nominated in the manufacturing category; Kamek Precision Tools, also nominated in the manufacturing category.
Human Resources: KD Services 4, a contract packaging and labelling company based in Dorval; FORNET, which offers janitorial services out of Dorval; Laurentide Controls Ltd., a Kirkland supplier of automation and process solutions for manufacturers.
Small Business: Canada Care Global Inc., a pharmaceutical sales consulting service that connects medical device, diagnostic and pharmaceutical companies with trained medical professionals who can act as liaisons with doctors and retail pharmacists; Viita Protection, a Pierrefonds manufacturer of washable undergarments with integrated absorbent pads for women with bladder leakage; Mogile Technologies, also nominated in the high-technology category. Business to Business Services: Bulletproof Logistics Inc., also nominated in the distribution category; Evets & Irol Faxinating Solutions, a service that “translates” electronic invoices and purchase orders between different data formats, based in PointeClaire; Laurentide Controls Ltd., also nominated in the human resources category. Novotaste Corp., a Pointe-Claire food and beverage development company that creates flavour solutions to enhance taste or reduce added sugar or salt. Sustainable Development: Schluter Systems Canada, a provider of tile and stone installation systems based in Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue; Sigma Energy Storage, which was also nominated in the hightechnology category; Walter Surface Technologies, which was also nominated in the high-technology category.
Community Service: Action Jeunesse de l’Ouest-de-l’Île, which provides street-worker intervention services for youths aged 12 to 25; Literacy Unlimited, a PointeClaire-based not-for-profit organization that aims to empower adults through improved literacy; Volunteer West Island, an organization based in Ste-Anne-deBellevue that recruits, trains and refers volunteers within the West Island.
