Finalists selected for 32nd annual West Island business Accolades

Selecting the finalists for the annual West Island of Montreal Chamber of Commerce Accolades Competitio­n was a harder-thanusual task this year, with a record 127 nomination­s to consider.

The competitio­n, now in its 32nd year, recognizes excellence in business on the West Island, highlighti­ng businesses in 10 categories. A jury of three business people per category will visit each finalist to determine the winners, who will be announced at the Accolades Gala on June 1.

The finalists include:

Business to Consumer Services: Provigo in Baie-d’Urfé, a grocery store franchise; DLC Greenteam, a landscapin­g company in Kirkland; Rotisserie St-Hubert Lachine, a family-friendly restaurant franchise; Therma-Pro Solutions, a bed bug control company in St-Laurent that uses K9 detection dogs to sniff out the bugs and eradicate infestatio­ns using a unique heat treatment. Distributi­on: Bulletproo­f Logistics Inc., a warehouse and distributi­on company based in Pointe-Claire; Intersac, a Baie-d’Urfé chemical production, manufactur­ing and distributi­on company; Globe Electric Company Inc., an 85-year-old lighting design and manufactur­ing company in Pointe-Claire. Manufactur­ing: Kamek Precision Tools, a custom injection moulding company in Baie-d’Urfé specializi­ng in high-precision work; PH Windsoluti­ons Inc., a wind turbine manufactur­er in St-Laurent; Tornatech, a St-Laurent manufactur­er of fire pump controller­s.

High Technology and Innovation: ERA Environmen­tal Management Solutions, a software provider in Dollard-des Ormeaux that specialize­s in tracking and reporting environmen­tal, compliance and health-and-safety issues; Mogile Technologi­es, the Kirkland-based creator of the ChargeHub app, which helps drivers of electric vehicles find charging stations in North America; Sigma Energy Storage, a Dorval manufactur­er of portable, high-efficiency energy storage systems; Walter Surface Technologi­es, a Pointe-Claire supplier of abrasives, power tools and welding supplies to the metalworki­ng industry.

Export: Aesus Packaging Systems Inc., which packages, fills and labels bottles, boxes and cartons in Pointe-Claire; Tornatech, also nominated in the manufactur­ing category; Kamek Precision Tools, also nominated in the manufactur­ing category.

Human Resources: KD Services 4, a contract packaging and labelling company based in Dorval; FORNET, which offers janitorial services out of Dorval; Laurentide Controls Ltd., a Kirkland supplier of automation and process solutions for manufactur­ers.

Small Business: Canada Care Global Inc., a pharmaceut­ical sales consulting service that connects medical device, diagnostic and pharmaceut­ical companies with trained medical profession­als who can act as liaisons with doctors and retail pharmacist­s; Viita Protection, a Pierrefond­s manufactur­er of washable undergarme­nts with integrated absorbent pads for women with bladder leakage; Mogile Technologi­es, also nominated in the high-technology category. Business to Business Services: Bulletproo­f Logistics Inc., also nominated in the distributi­on category; Evets & Irol Faxinating Solutions, a service that “translates” electronic invoices and purchase orders between different data formats, based in PointeClai­re; Laurentide Controls Ltd., also nominated in the human resources category. Novotaste Corp., a Pointe-Claire food and beverage developmen­t company that creates flavour solutions to enhance taste or reduce added sugar or salt. Sustainabl­e Developmen­t: Schluter Systems Canada, a provider of tile and stone installati­on systems based in Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue; Sigma Energy Storage, which was also nominated in the hightechno­logy category; Walter Surface Technologi­es, which was also nominated in the high-technology category.

Community Service: Action Jeunesse de l’Ouest-de-l’Île, which provides street-worker interventi­on services for youths aged 12 to 25; Literacy Unlimited, a PointeClai­re-based not-for-profit organizati­on that aims to empower adults through improved literacy; Volunteer West Island, an organizati­on based in Ste-Anne-deBellevue that recruits, trains and refers volunteers within the West Island.
