Waiting, waiting at the Royal Vic

-

I am a regular user of the new Royal Victoria at the Glen site of the MUHC. I need to have blood drawn usually four times every month. It is always a slow process, but this week was the worst.

There were only two technicians drawing blood with a waiting room of at least 100 people. Some patients had been there for three hours and were still waiting.

Usually there are five or six technicians, but staff told me 15 technicians had been laid off.

If this is how management is dealing with cost-cutting, I would suggest it is the wrong approach. It is difficult for sick people to sit in waitingroom chairs for long periods, and being so close together allows their illnesses to spread to others.

I have no suggestions on how to fix this issue, but terminating 15 employees puts patients at risk. Brian Bourque, St-Lambert
