Raonic, Nadal bounced from Italian Open
Rafael Nadal’s winning streak ended at 17 matches as he lost to Dominic Thiem in the quarterfinals of the Italian Open on Friday, while Ontario’s Milos Raonic bowed out in straight sets to Alexander Zverev. Venus Williams is also out of the tournament after the American was ousted 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 by third seed Garbine Muguruza. Thiem’s 6-4, 6-3 victory came after he was beaten by the Spaniard in the Madrid Open final last week. Raonic, meanwhile, pushed his 16th-seeded opponent to a tiebreaker in the opening set before dropping a 7-6 (1), 6-1 decision. Zverev needed 89 minutes to complete the victory over the No. 5 seed from Thornhill, Ont.
